“All Too Clear” Documentary

As Heritage Ambassador for Save Ontario Shipwrecks I was featured in a segment of the TVO three-part documentary All Too Clear. Filmed in Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, I assisted filmmakers Zach Melnick and Yvonne Drebert in capturing data for a 3D photogrammetry model of the shipwreck Africa that they discovered. Plus, filmed footage of their cutting edge Remote Operated Vehicle in action.

Yvonne Drebert and Zach Melnick set out to make a documentary about invasive quagga mussels in the Great Lakes. Along the way, they found the wreck of what is likely the steamship Africa, last seen on a stormy October night in 1895. Read the complete story on Canadian Geographic.

Although numerous divers were filmed for the TVO Original All Too Clear, none were actually used to capture the underwater footage in the series. Instead, filmmakers Yvonne Drebert and Zach Melnick relied on an advanced underwater drone, or Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), to explore beneath the surface of the Great Lakes.
